Thresh - the Chain Warden

Thresh

the Chain Warden

UTILITY

Sadistic and cunning, Thresh is an ambitious and restless specter of the Shadow Isles. Once the custodian of countless arcane secrets, he was undone by a power greater than life or death, and now sustains himself by tormenting and breaking others with slow, excruciating inventiveness. His victims suffer far beyond their brief mortal coil as Thresh wreaks agony upon their souls, imprisoning them in his unholy lantern to torture for all eternity.

Thresh Build Guide

Overview

A longtime favorite of many support players, Thresh is a champion with a high skill ceiling that greatly rewards creative and aggressive players. He can single handedly swing the game in your favor with critical hooks and lanterns. Click here for the latest data on his best builds, including Runes, Items, Summoner Spells, and more.

Top 3 Things to Remember About Thresh

  1. You have a little bit of time after you land your hook to decide whether you should go in or not. Sometimes it’s okay to just take the chip damage and fall back!

  2. Your allies do not have to stand directly on top of your lantern to be pulled back to safety. It can be easier for them to click it if you throw it to an open space.

  3. Thresh’s kit makes it very easy for him to find pressure on early roams -- don’t be afraid to make pit stops in other lanes if you trust your ADC to play safe for a bit without you.

Strengths

You can adjust your style depending on what your team needs -- if you need more engage and playmaking, then you can position yourself towards the front for opportunities to land Death Sentence. However, if your team just needs to keep your carries alive, then you can also play back more and toss Dark Passage towards an ally to negate an enemy engage. Thresh is a champion that can fit whatever your team needs.

Weaknesses

All of Thresh’s abilities can be difficult to master, and it’s not uncommon for a Thresh player to just whiff on everything. And while you may look like a threatening presence, you’re actually fairly squishy and easy to kill if you find yourself in the thick of the fray. He’s a very difficult champion to master, and even playing him just to an average level may not be enough for his kit to truly shine.

Game Plan

  1. Early Game: You don’t have to land your hooks to control the lane -- even just the threat of it can be enough to ward off enemies. Either way, look to assert your presence!

  2. Mid Game: Like all supports, you’ll want to focus on gaining vision control around key objectives, but you can also look to set up picks and fights with Death Sentence.

  3. Late Game: You can be the hero by finding a key hook, or you can be the saving grace with a big lantern. Position yourself properly to fit your team’s needs!
