Rakan - The Charmer

Rakan

The Charmer

UTILITY

As mercurial as he is charming, Rakan is an infamous vastayan troublemaker and the greatest battle-dancer in Lhotlan tribal history. To the humans of the Ionian highlands, his name has long been synonymous with wild festivals, uncontrollable parties, and anarchic music. Few would suspect this energetic, traveling showman is also partner to the rebel Xayah, and is dedicated to her cause.

Rakan Build Guide

Overview

You can tell Rakan is a wife guy because so much of his kit revolves around jumping to an ally -- this means Rakan is extremely mobile, especially in the confines of a team fight. He’s a great disruptor and champion for anyone looking for playmaking capability in fights. Click here for the latest data on his best builds, including Runes, Items, Summoner Spells, and more.

Keys to Remember About Rakan

  1. Using The Quickness first can be the easiest way to ensure that you also land Grand Entrance -- being able to layer the CC is how you'll help guarantee a kill.

  2. Because you can go back and forth between allies with Battle Dance, Rakan typically begins the fight by engaging onto the largest clump of champions possible before peeling back to defend his carries.

Strengths

His biggest strength by far is his mobility -- two abilities grant him a dash and a third increases his speed while providing CC. This means weaving in and out of fights are going to be the best way to utilize him, as he’s someone who can engage on the enemy backline and then quickly retreat to peel for a carry in the span of one combo.

Weaknesses

While he can dart around in a fight, all it takes is for one hard CC to lock him down to make him extremely vulnerable to dying. That’s the risk proposition for any squishy champion with the ability to make plays. Rakan also requires strong awareness of both enemy and ally positioning in fights so that you can make the best decision on where to be -- lean too far on a dive or on peeling and the kit will not be used to its full potential.

Game Plan

  1. Early Game: Look for short trades as Rakan’s sustain will help you win out in the long run. Mana costs are going to be a concern but if you’re able to win a couple of trades in a row, your enemies will be at risk of being jumped on thanks to your Grand Entrance.

  2. Mid Game: Maximize your mobility at this point and dart around the map to look for fights -- Rakan is adept at both engaging and counter-engaging so look for opportunities for both.

  3. Late Game: You’ll want to balance what you do in the fight with what your team needs -- if you are lacking in engage, then it may be up to you to get the party going. But if your carries are struggling to stay alive, then it’ll be better to stick back and save your CC to peel the enemy divers.
