Lucian Build Guide

Overview

Why be a wife guy IRL when you can be a wife guy in-game? Lucian is the champion pick for the faithful, featuring an array of light elemental attacks where he needs to weave in and out to make the best use of his kit. Top 3 Things to Remember About Lucian

  1. Relentless Pursuit’s cooldown is reduced with each hit of Lightslinger, which means you can be aggressive with using it, and come late game, the best Lucian players are able to reduce uptime on their abilities to as close to 0 as possible. Relentless Pursuit especially can come back much quicker than you might expect.

  2. Piercing Light’s range can be deceptively long, and the easiest way for you to land poke early in lane phase is to shoot a minion and have the extended light hit an enemy champion.

  3. Lucian can clear a wave pretty quickly thanks to, well, all of his abilities, but The Culling especially can be used to quickly clear a wave. It’s also good to use it for poke damage before a fight even begins.

Strengths

His combos are reliant on you being able to weave in auto attacks between using abilities to make the most of his passive. Fortunately, his abilities are fairly easy to use, which means his damage output, especially early in the game once he has at least one point in each ability, is very high. This remains into the mid-game, where he’s a major threat in any one-on-one duels, even against enemy solo laners. He’s a champion that greatly rewards those who can min-max his capabilities to squeeze out every bit of damage.

Weaknesses

Lucian doesn’t scale as well into late game as other ADCs, and one of the main reasons for that is he has limited range, which requires him to use Relentless Pursuit to close the gap and deal damage. This puts him at great risk in most fights, and in the late-game, even taking residual damage from spells not even aimed at you can be devastating for a squishy champion like Lucian. He’s someone who needs to do well early or it’s going to feel like a very long game.

Game Plan

  1. Early Game: You spike in power each time you gain a new ability, and even as early as Level 2, you can find an all-in timing if you are able to hit it first thanks to Relentless Pursuit allowing you to close the gap. Be aggressive and look for fights!

  2. Mid Game: Lucian will still be strong at this phase, and The Culling can help push enemies off of towers and neutral objectives.

  3. Late Game: Like most ADCs at this phase, front-to-back is your best bet as long as your team is helping you. That said, Lucian is still capable of making a play or finding a pick if he’s able to get a good angle for The Culling or if he can Relentless Pursuit into an out-of-position carry.
