Nocturne

the Eternal Nightmare

JUNGLE

A demonic amalgamation drawn from the nightmares that haunt every sentient mind, the thing known as Nocturne has become a primordial force of pure evil. It is liquidly chaotic in aspect, a faceless shadow with cold eyes and armed with wicked-looking blades. After freeing itself from the spirit realm, Nocturne descended upon the waking world, to feed upon the kind of terror that can only thrive in true darkness.

Nocturne Build Guide

Overview

Afraid of the dark? Well, it’s okay because Nocturne is just a character in a video game and cannot hurt you. He’s not in your closet or under your bed or in the backseat of your car when you get into the front at night. Nocturne’s signature ability is his ultimate, which allows you to turn off the lights and jump on someone from a great distance. Keys to Remember About Nocturne

  1. Your bread-and-butter is going to be your ultimate, and because it's a point-and-click ability, that means your effectiveness on it is tied largely to decision making. You don't always have to dive the back line, and you can wait a little bit before committing to jumping on someone.

  2. You'll want to focus on pushing level 6 as quickly as possible early game -- the difference in power between having or not having your ultimate will be huge throughout the game.

Strengths

As long as his Paranoia is up, the entire map will have to play safely lest they risk being jumped on by him. He brings a lot of damage to the table and can clear camps with ease, which means junglers will sometimes just try to power level and secure level 6 as fast as possible. After that, you can threaten to gank anyone -- especially targets without Flash -- for quick kills in the early and mid-game. Come late game, it is more dangerous for him to commit to a teamfight, but he’s excellent at securing picks, and the utility of the ultimate limiting vision is a very underrated aspect.

Weaknesses

At this point in League of Legends’ shelf life, people know how to play against almost every champion, which becomes increasingly true as you climb higher in ELO. Nocturne can be greatly thwarted by a team that just groups to peel him off together, which means against organized teams you’ll have difficulty finding value even if you manage to get fed early. This combined with him being squishy and his one defensive ability, Shroud of Darkness, being difficult to time makes him and easy target to kill.

Game Plan

  1. Early Game: Farm as much as possible -- you are weak at this stage in the game and generally just want to push for level 6 while avoiding the enemy jungler. You can still find ganks if your laners create opportunities for you, but avoid taking unnecessary risks.

  2. Mid Game: With Paranoia up, you should be looking to work with your allies that have the ability to jump in with you. Otherwise you’ll want to find isolated targets -- one easy place to do this is in side lanes, where you can shadow one of your solo laners.

  3. Late Game: You’re unlikely to one-shot enemy carries with your Paranoia at this point in the game, so make sure you don’t overcommit to a dive unless your entire team is built to dive. It’s also fine to just turn off the lights and hit an enemy frontliner to help your carries secure a front-to-back fight.
